Stage 3 – Content
Content is often an after thought when it comes to web design.
The previous stage will have identified what content areas visitors will expect to find on your new website.
The first step of this stage is to look at what content is already available and identifying how much of it can be re-used on the new website. This content may exist on your old website or simply as printed material somewhere.
The next step is to identify what content is missing and assign someone to write it (and edit the old content if necessary). Writing content doesn't have to be finished before the next stage can begin, but you need to get this stage underway as it will have an impact on the design.
The final step you need to do is decide how the different areas of content should be grouped so that similar and related content sit together. Many clients often struggle with this stage because they haven't been tasked with writing about their business before, never mind for a website. Having had years of experience working in a content driven environment with highly skilled content writers, we can offer advice and help you to produce content for your website.
It's also worth saying that depending on budget, some clients like to carry out this stage themselves as they feel confident in writing content, perhaps because they have experience from a previous website project. This isn't a problem and any gaps that are discovered can easily be filled with some additional writing.
